In my paintings of dancers I am interested in exploring not just the beauty of the dancer’s body, but the power, the strength, the courage and the exertion of the dancer. I am interested in placing the dancer often in a constrained space, breaking out of its borders of the painting to enhance a sense of breaking loose with the freedom of movement. I also wanted to explore the sense of pleasure that the movement itself brings to the dancer. To master movement entwined with rhythm seems to connect us with the world around us and brings us great joy.
